Times Herald-Record Student of the Week: Winner competes in robotics tournaments

Adam Mednick, from the Fallsburg Central School District, has been voted this week's Times Herald-Record Student of the Week.

Adam, a senior, is excelling well beyond the classroom, according to administrators who nominated him. He recently won the Judge’s Award during the New York State Southern Robotics Championship match. This award is presented to players who have overcome adverse situations and earned the respect of the judges.

In addition to competing in robotics tournaments, Adam is also in the school’s Leo’s and Interact clubs.

He intends to pursue a degree in Computer Science and become an engineer. Fallsburg staff consider him a respectful, courteous, and devoted student.

A look at the other nominees for the Times Herald-Record Student of the Week

Jeannette Fountain, of Port Jervis, a senior, is an absolutely outstanding, young person. Her drive for success and personal agency is second to none. She has a wonderful mix of intellect, creativity, and leadership that has fostered an ability for her to effectively communicate with peers and adults. As a captain of the varsity cheer team, Jeannette encourages energy and motivates her team as well as a crowd of fans.  And personally, Jeannette can be observed to be a wonderful friend who is kind-hearted and fun.

Michael Franco of Chester Academy is an athlete currently serving as the varsity wrestling captain for two years with a number of impressive wrestling accomplishments. He had 31 wins this season with a career total of 74 wins.

Michael was All-Section wrestler three times, the 2024 Section 9 champion in his 170-pound weight class, received the NWCA Character and Leadership award in both 2023 and 2024; he has placed No. 2 all time in wins at Chester and took first place in both the Pawling and Hendrick Hudson tournaments.

Delanie Hoffman of Tri-Valley is extremely genuine and caring as a person and student. She will work with anyone and goes out of her way to help others and the community.

Delanie is kind to every single person she interacts with. She is caring, considerate, and a positive role model for everyone in our school. In addition to that, Delanie cares deeply about her academics. Her work ethic is exceptional. It is an honor having her in class and knowing her as a person.

This school year Delanie is spearheading a new program to help new students adjust to the Tri-Valley district through social connection, support, and community. She continues to go above and beyond in all that she does.

Cooper Stutz of Eldred Central School is a good senior student who always flies under the radar. He is ambitious, determined and always friendly and respectful.

He is a good role model for all kids, especially the younger kids as he is a mentor for incoming 7th graders at orientation. Cooper has a 3.7 GPA and took Regents-level classes as an 8th grader.

Cooper has always challenged himself taking college classes and honors-level ELA. Cooper has been in concert band playing the saxophone and has gone to NYSSMA since 9th grade. He has played varsity soccer, basketball and track all four years and works over the summer at a local canoe place, lifting rafts, going over safety and transporting. Cooper is deciding between Penn State and DeSales University to study Criminology/Criminal Justice.
