TIMELINE: Rounds of rain from the Gulf of Mexico to move into the Tampa Bay area
TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — An area of low pressure will cross the Gulf of Mexico and help increase moisture across Florida late Thursday.
Here’s a look at the forecast over the next few days:
THURSDAY
It should stay mostly sunny and warm in the afternoon. A stray shower or two is possible this evening.
THURSDAY NIGHT
Clouds increase as the low gets closer to Florida. Spotty showers are possible after midnight.
FRIDAY MORNING
The first round of heavy downpours arrives from the Gulf of Mexico. This may impact the commute to work and school. Frequent lightning and strong winds are embedded in these downpours.
The overall severe weather threat is low, but some isolated strong storms are possible. The main threat will be damaging wind gusts that reach 50-70 mph. A stray tornado is possible, but the threat is low.
FRIDAY
There will be breaks in the downpours at times, but it remains windy all day. More rounds of rain are possible as the area of low pressure arrives.
SATURDAY
Passing showers are still expected during the day. The threat of severe weather is lower, but it will be a breezy day. There’s a 50% chance of a quick downpour.
Rainfall totals during the entire event (Friday and Saturday) should be significant. Most areas accumulate at least an inch of rain, but areas where the heaviest downpours set up may get 2-3 inches.
SUNDAY
Humidity is slightly lower, and it will be mostly sunny. Highs remain in the mid-70s.
