Timbers announce refund policy over DaBella fallout

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Just days after the Portland Timbers cut ties with one of their biggest and most prominent sponsors, fans who bought the kits now have a clear path to get a refund.

The Timbers ended their partnership with DaBella after sexual harassment allegations against company CEO Donnie McMillan Jr. DaBella signage was in many places throughout Providence Park and the DaBella logo was on the Timbers jerseys.

In a post on their website, Timbers officials said fans who bought a new kit before February 29 now have 30 days to return it for a refund, either in person or postage paid. A receipt must be included and the refund will be delivered “to the original form of purchase,” the team said.

They also said they are “working with external vendors to explore our options if you purchased a kit from someone other than us.”

Official Timbers jerseys can cost between $75-$200.

“I’m happy we dropped them,” said fan Jorden Bartelds. “I’m hoping that we get a better sponsorship. Hopefully a company that was, like, founded in Oregon.”

The organization told KOIN 6 that all DaBella signage around Providence Park, along with the logo on Timbers jerseys, were removed or covered up before Saturday’s match.

Timbers fan Harrison Williams said he hopes “we’d get something local, like, Tillamook will be really cool or Dutch Bros, see if Dutch Bros can no longer be our practice warm-up jersey and to be full time in-game jersey.”

Fans who came out for the match against DC United were there for what was about to happen on the pitch.

“We’re going to be here for the players that’s my we come,” said Timbers fan Cory Doehne. “The playoffs, we missed the last two years. It would like to go to the playoffs again. It would be nice to do that.”

Bartelds has his sights on something more than a jersey.

“I’m just hoping to win win the whole thing when MLS Cup I think that’d be awesome.”

For the record, the Timbers and DC United played to a 2-2 draw at Providence Park on this night.

‘Collector’s items’

On Friday, fans at Kingston Sports Bar and Grill, including Steve Rogers, said they’re happy the team took quick action.

“They’ll probably be collector’s items at some point,” he said. “The Timbers leadership managed it really well. They were really quick and decisive about it. So I’m looking forward to seeing who the next sponsor is.”

There’s no word yet on who will take the sponsor spot on the team’s jerseys.
