TikTok plastic surgeon Dr. Roxy has license permanently revoked for livestreaming surgeries

The Ohio Medical Board has permanently revoked the state medical license of plastic surgeon Katherine Roxanne Grawe — better known to her patients and online followers as Dr. Roxy — due to patient harm caused by livestreaming surgeries on TikTok.

During a meeting with the board on Wednesday, Grawe pleaded for their leniency in reconsidering the decision.

“I ask you from the bottom of my heart to please consider my thoughts with an open mind,” she said, according to CBS Austin. “This has humbled me more than you can know. I am willing to change my social media practices, and I will never live-stream a surgery again.”

Grawe, who boasts over 825,000 followers on her now-private TikTok account, had initially been suspended from continuing her practice at “Roxy Plastic Surgery” in November. The board’s decision Wednesday now bans her from practicing medicine anywhere in Ohio.

The board ruled that, during the surgeries, Grawe neglected her patients as she was livestreaming their procedures, engaging with viewers and answering questions on the app.

The Ohio Medical Board also expressed concerns over patient privacy and potential ethical violations, according to the previous suspension notice.

The allegations revealed that three of Grawe’s patients experienced severe complications that required extensive medical treatment following their initial procedures.

One patient, whose surgery Grawe partially livestreamed on TikTok, had a perforated intestine discovered a week later. She ended up with significant damage done to her abdomen, bacterial infections and loss of brain function due to toxins in her blood.

“We’ve seen an extreme lack of professionalism. Her posts are done as a marketing ploy,” a state medical board member said during the meeting Wednesday. “Dr. Grawe’s social media was more important to her than the lives of the patients she treated.”
