Thurston, health department collect hundreds of old tires

THURSTON -- The Village of Thurston recently hosted a tire collection project for the Fairfield County Health Department, and it was a huge success.

People from the Village of Thurston and the Fairfield County Health Department loaded up the tires recently collected from around the county and dropped off in the village.

It is estimated that the village collected over 1,600 tires that filled a 53-foot semi-trailer, a 28-foot trailer, and couple of box trucks. People from the village and the health department loaded the tires that were brought in.

People from all over Fairfield County brought in tires and, according to Mayor Gina Matos, they expressed positive feedback and were thankful for the service.

The event was made possible by a grant that the health department had received, and Matos had asked to host the location drop-off in Thurston.
