Thurston, health department collect hundreds of old tires
THURSTON -- The Village of Thurston recently hosted a tire collection project for the Fairfield County Health Department, and it was a huge success.
It is estimated that the village collected over 1,600 tires that filled a 53-foot semi-trailer, a 28-foot trailer, and couple of box trucks. People from the village and the health department loaded the tires that were brought in.
People from all over Fairfield County brought in tires and, according to Mayor Gina Matos, they expressed positive feedback and were thankful for the service.
The event was made possible by a grant that the health department had received, and Matos had asked to host the location drop-off in Thurston.
