Thunder release Liggins after arrest
Oklahoma City Thunder swingman DeAndre Liggins, arrested last week after an alleged domestic violence incident, was waived by the team on Friday.
The Thunder did not issue a statement on Liggins' release. He was charged with seven felony counts -- including three counts of domestic abuse, two counts of domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, one count of kidnapping and one count of assault and battery -- after the altercation last Saturday at his home.
Liggins' girlfriend told police that he attacked her with their 2-year-old son present. The Daily Oklahoman reported that she said Liggins hit were in the head with his hand, punched her after she had fallen. He then broke down a bedroom door that she had locked and dropped a fan on her, stomped her and dropped an Xbox on her head.
The Oklahoman also reported that Marcus Rogers, 23, was charged as a co-defendant with Liggins on one count of kidnapping with an additional count of kidnapping and one count of assault and battery.
Liggins played in 39 games for the Thunder last season and averaged 1.5 points and 1.4 rebounds. He also saw action in 19 games for the Thunder's Developmental League team and averaged 11.6 points, 6.9 rebounds and 4.3 assists.
The former second-round draft pick from Kentucky has appeared in 56 career games for the Thunder and Orlando Magic. He will become an unrestricted free agent when he clears waivers.
