Thunder over Evans has great turnout once again

EVANS, Ga. (WJBF) – It was a great event with a great turnout. Hundreds of people came out to enjoy the spectacle.

Many people come to Thunder Over Evans as a family tradition each year. With events like a military salute, bands coming out to play, and a fireworks and drone show, there is something fun for everyone.

“We’ve been, except for Covid, we try to come out,” said Bob Courtwright and Honey, A patron. “She loves to entertain the kids. The kids seem to love her. When we came, we watched the weather. Obviously, her safety is paramount, so the weather was passing through. Big storm clouds left us, so it should be a great event tonight.”

Despite the threat of weather, many people I spoke to said that it wasn’t going to stop them from coming out and enjoying the event.

“We saw them arrive about 11 am. Which is pretty funny since the event doesn’t start till 6 pm,” said Shane Thompson, an event organizer. “So, the gates open at 5, but really that is for people that want to buy food or beer and whatnot. So, people do get here, and they stake their ground, so we kind of look at it almost like the golf tournament where you want to come in and put your chairs in to get your spot. People know what to expect with loud power technics and firebombs.

Veterans also enjoy coming to the event each year to stay connected with their past.

“So, we like to come here. Its Armed Forces Day just to see some of the things that kind of remind me us of our past service and my favorite part is just seeing some of the folks in uniform. I’ve been retired for a while, so I’m just kind of keeping in touch with the military community,” said Terry King, a patron of the retired army.

Thunder over Evans was a success once again, and many can’t wait until next year.
