Three-vehicle crash on US-231 involves TSC school bus, no serious injuries reported

LAFAYETTE, Ind.— A three-vehicle crash on U.S. 231 Monday morning involving a Tippecanoe School Corp. bus resulted in no serious injuries, according to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office.

Tippecanoe County sheriff's Capt. Rob Hainje said the call for the crash came in about 7:56 a.m. A TSC bus traveling southbound in the 6800 block of US-231 just south of the intersection at W 625 S activated its amber lights, Hainje said, indicating it was slowing down.

A northbound passenger van began to slow down in response to the bus's amber lights, Hainje said, but a semi-truck following the van was unable to slow down or stop, crashing into the van's rear. The impact of the semi-truck pushed the van forward, Hainje said, causing the vehicle to rotate across the center line, striking the TSC bus.

TSC spokeswoman Sue Scott said the bus involved in the crash was carrying 31 students who were on their way to Mintonye Elementary and Southwestern Middle schools. Scott said no injuries were reported, but school nurses will check on the students upon their arrival to their respected schools as a precaution.

Hainje said the driver of the van suffered non-life threatening injuries, but no other injuries were reported in the crash.
