Three top Amarillo artists raise over $61,000 for wildfire relief

Renowned Amarillo country artists Aaron Watson, Randall King and Kevin Fowler teamed up to raise money for the Panhandle Disaster Relief Fund at a benefit concert held at the Starlight Ranch Sunday evening in Amarillo.

The trio of artists, all born in Amarillo, came together as the Panhandle Boys at a concert billed as the West Texas Relief Concert. In total, more than $61,000 was raised for the relief efforts from the concert, which was sold out with more than 2,400 people attending.

Bobby and his brother Danny Lee, co-owners of the Starlight Ranch and the Big Texan, spoke about the benefit concert.

“We did not know going into this concert, when they called me about this, I was like 'you want to come here in the month of March with the unpredictable nature of the weather here?'” Bobby Lee said. “We sold out extremely quick, but with all the people that come from the farming and ranching sector of the Texas Panhandle, they really showed up to support this.”

Bobby Lee said that he and his brother like to work with many of the nonprofits in the area because they really put on a great show.

“The reason why these people came out here in this weather is to support those who were affected by a really bad weather event that destroyed so much in the Panhandle,” Danny Lee said. “Anytime that you can get people in here to experience all that we have to offer at the Big Texan and Starlight Ranch for charity or otherwise is wonderful. We just want people to have a great experience, and we are so glad to be able to do this to help those that need it most.”

Another concert that will benefit those affected by the Texas Panhandle wildfires will be held on April 21, featuring Lyle Lovett and Michael Martin Murphy.
