Three-on-three basketball tournament to be played on Chillicothe streets

CHILLICOTHE — Basketball fans and players get ready for the upcoming Gus Macker tournament coming to the streets of Downtown Chillicothe.

Cheryl Beverly with Cheryl’s House of Hope was inspired to host the event after seeing her grandkids travel around to play in Gus Mackers in the state. After looking into hosting the event, and its history in Chillicothe, she grew excited about the idea of bringing it back.

The three-on-three tournament is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The tournament in Chillicothe will honor the late Mike Barrows who helped plan the event for years before he died in 1994.

“My brother Mike was instrumental in bringing it here in the early 90’s. He passed in ’94 and would be so happy to see it return,” said Mark Barrows.
