3 arrested after 8-year-old boy shot in head in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Three people have been arrested in the Virginia Beach shooting of 8-year-old Landyn Davis, police said.

The boy was shot while he was at home, playing computer games on Feb. 13. Landyn went into a medically-induced coma after the bullet went through his head. Around 20 bullets entered his family’s home that day.

His parents were away at a wrestling match. When Landyn’s parents got a call from their 15-year-old daughter, they rushed to their home on Peele Court to find their son seriously injured.

After nearly four weeks, two men and one woman were arrested and charged in connection to the incident, police announced on Friday, March 8. They are 21-year-old Toriyon Cook, 24-year-old Jerry Davis and 21-year-old Jakyra Epperson.

Cook and Davis were charged with malicious shooting and additional gun charges, and Epperson was charged on several concealing/destroying evidence charges.

Virginia Beach Police Chief Paul Neudigate explained what it took to bring those three in.

“Sometimes 30 or 40 separate officers working on different aspects of this case, and I think that shows what a priority for this police department this offense was. This task force authored and served over 30 individual search warrants,” he said.

He also said the shooting was gang related.

“We do believe that the indented target was outside the residence that day and we do believe there are some gang affiliations.”

Landyn’s parents told 10 On Your Side they’re unbelievably grateful for VBPD for making the arrests.

“I was glad they got arrested because, you know, they could have really taken my son’s life. You know, you got a life-threatening injury, and they pretty much ruined his future for right now,” his father, Steven Davis said.

However, Neudigate said the investigation is far from over.

“This is not the end of the investigation. We do believe there were other people that may have played a part in this and that continues and there may be additional charges down the road.”

Neudigate added a message to Landyn’s family and said he feels their pain and prays for them.

Landyn’s parents urge anyone who might know anything about others who might’ve been involved, to reach out to police.
