One dead, three wounded in Brooklyn building shooting; NYPD seeks suspect

One man died from a bullet to the face and three other victims were wounded Saturday afternoon when a gunman started shooting inside a Brooklyn apartment building, police said.

The victims were all inside the building on E. 45th St. near Snyder Ave. in East Flatbush about 1:45 p.m. when the gunman opened fire, said cops.

First responders found the murder victim, 39, unconscious and unresponsive before he was pronounced dead on arrival at Kings County Hospital, said officials.

A 27-year-old woman was in critical condition at the same hospital after taking a bullet to the torso. The third victim, a 40-year-old man shot in the leg, was conscious and alert at the hospital, officials said.

A fourth victim was reported hours after the shooting when she sought treatment at a hospital in Elizabeth, N.J. for wounds to her arm and her buttocks, said police. She was reported in stable condition.

Police searched for the shooter after he fled the scene on foot, with neighbors telling the Daily News that the building’s basement was frequently used for all kinds of illicit activity.

“It’s not the first time,” one neighbor said of the shooting. “It’s drugs, it’s everything. It’s prostitution, it’s gambling. A lot of parties in that building ... The police have to get inside and shut that thing down. It’s time.”

A second neighbor said the problems date to last summer and local residents had grown tired of complaining without any resolution of the issues.

“I hope that it’s over,” she said.

It was not immediately clear if the four victims were together or if they were specifically targeted by the shooter. Police provided no description of the fugitive killer.
