The Steelers will start their training camp in one week. Finally, we will be able to talk about things rather than speculating. Training camp doesn’t provide a great picture of one’s success but it sure can be detrimental. While there are sure to be more storylines that derive from camp itself, these three are currently the most important headlines going into camp.

No. 1: How is the defensive backfield?

The Steelers will have plenty of new faces in the defensive backfield. Most people will be looking to see how Artie Burns, Sean Davis and Senquez Golson perform. It will be fascinating to see if these three young men can emerge as training camp stars. Although that is unlikely, we will find out who has an inside track of becoming a starter. We all want these guys to succeed, but two out of three ain’t bad. If two of them are better than we expect, the Steelers can really start thinking Super Bowl.

No. 2: Who will they extend and how healthy is Le’Veon Bell?

There are two big names who will be looking to get a contract extension. Both David DeCastro and Le’veon Bell are in line for an extension. Obviously, the Steelers will want to see how Bell’s knee has healed before they offer him anything. We all saw him playing basketball and he looked amazing. All signs point to DeCastro getting an extension first. The real question is will Bell get an extension at all. He will not get 15 million a year as he wants. I just hope the Steelers aren’t super shady, because if they are Bell might walk.

No. 3: How will the offense look without Martavis Bryant?

Everyone is excited about the Steelers offense. I, on the other hand, am worried that they won’t flourish because Martavis Bryant is not on the field. Bryant was the player who opened up the field and really stretched opposing defenses. Wheaton can’t do this, so we will see who emerges as the third wide receiver. Can Sammie Coates be the next Bryant; I doubt it but I am wrong more than 50 percent of the time. The ultimate question is can the offense be better than last year without Bryant? Time will tell.
