Three people pulled from water at Dennis beach on Thursday reported conscious, alert

DENNIS — Three females rescued from Mayflower Beach Thursday were reported by rescuers on Friday as conscious and alert, according to Dennis Police.

The weather conditions at the beach Thursday included a strong offshore wind and higher than normal surf conditions, the police said.

The three females were age 45, 15 and 11. They told investigators that they were swimming and had gotten too far out to swim back to shore.

What happened on Thursday?

On Thursday police reported they were investigating at least one possible drowning at the beach.

At 2:58 p.m. the town's beach department staff called police about a possible drowning victim they pulled from the water, according to a press release from the police.

Once at the beach, rescuers learned there were three females who had been pulled from the water.

As of Friday, the three female were being treated at the hospital.

Mayflower Beach is one of nearly a dozen town-operated beaches on Cape Cod Bay.

A high surf advisory was in effect for Barnstable County on Thursday, through 8 p.m. Midday on Thursday winds in the mid-Cape area were 22 mph with gusts to 32 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
