Three CBS Employees Say Charlie Rose Sexually Harassed Them
Gayle King meant it on Tuesday when she said her then-“CBS This Morning” co-host Charlie Rose “doesn’t get a pass from anyone in this room.”
Three more women, this time CBS News employees, have accused the veteran anchor of sexual harassment, CBS Corp. reported Tuesday evening on “CBS Evening News.”
The three women making the complaints were not identified, and their names were not disclosed to CBS management, according to a person familiar with the matter. The employees were found through reporting, this person said, and CBS will continue to investigate the situation.
“We learned about these cases not from the HR department, but from our own investigation into his behavior,” said CBS News correspondent Bianna Golodryga on the Wednesday broadcast of “CBS This Morning.” All three employees spoke on condition of anonymity.
“I am greatly embarrassed. I have behaved insensitively at times, and I accept responsibility for that, though I do not believe that all of these allegations are accurate,” Rose said in a statement on Monday. “I always felt that I was pursuing shared feelings, even though I now realize I was mistaken.”
He did not respond to CBS’ requests for comment on the matter.
CBS fired Rose on Tuesday amid allegations that he had harassed female former employees at his production company.
“A short time ago we terminated Charlie Rose’s employment with CBS News, effective immediately. This followed the revelation yesterday of extremely disturbing and intolerable behavior said to have revolved around his PBS program,” said CBS News President David Rhodes in a memo to staff on Tuesday.
