Three candidates vie for Fort Smith City Director Ward 3 position

FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Three candidates have announced their bid for the Fort Smith City Director Ward 3 position, according to Talk Business & Politics.

Carl Nevin will run for the position in the upcoming Nov. 5 general election.

Nevin is a small business owner and has been involved in local politics since 2022, according to the article.

He ran for the At Large, Position 5 seat in 2022, but lost the race to Christina Catsavis.

According to the article, Nevin is currently chairman of Fort Smith Crime Stoppers.

Russ Bragg is another candidate vying for the position.

Bragg was senior vice president of the supply chain of OK Foods for 35 years, where he was responsible for distribution, transportation, logistics and more.

He currently serves on the audit committee for the City of Fort Smith, according to the article.

Bragg has also served on several boards, including the River Valley Habitat for Humanity, Golfing for Kids and the Arkansas State Plant Board.

These announcements for candidacy come after Lee Kemp announced on March 21 that he will run for the city director position.

Kemp is the pastor of Forefront Church in Fort Smith, which he and his family founded in 2013.

According to the article, he’s been involved with organizations such as Fort Smith Christian Men’s Job Corps, Fort Smith Boys & Girls Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

The Ward 3 position is currently held by Lavon Morton, who was first appointed in April 2019.

According to the article, Morton has not yet announced whether he will seek reelection in the Nov. 5 vote.
