'Threatening video' posted online prompts law enforcement response at Oak Hills High School

A "threatening" online video prompted an increased law enforcement presence at Oak Hills High School on Friday, authorities said.

The Hesperia Unified School District first learned of the video Thursday evening, according to representatives of the high school.

"The video shows several males in a home, wearing hoodies and cursing several individuals by first name while covering their faces," school officials said in a written statement. "One of the individuals appears to be holding a weapon."

While Oak Hills High School was not mentioned by name in the "threatening video," nor was any other campus, district officials asked for an "elevated law enforcement presence on campus out of an abundance of caution," according to the statement.

It appeared the video has been posted earlier in the week before gaining attention on Thursday, officials added.

The incident follows the arrest of a student accused of bringing a loaded gun to Oak Hills High School on Tuesday.

"Contrary to social media rumors, the individuals in this video were not involved in the incident at OHHS on Tuesday, as that incident involved only one individual, who was arrested," statement said. "Law enforcement agencies are currently working with leads that they hope will identify the individuals in the video soon."

Tuesday's incident resulted in false, widespread online rumors of an "active shooter" at the school.

Deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department joined their Hesperia School Police counterparts in securing the campus.

"We are working with Hesperia School Police to ensure the safety and security of student and faculty," the agency said in a statement posted to social media. "Be advised this is as an ongoing investigation and at this time there are no additional safety concerns."

The school district extended thanks to the law enforcement officers and agencies who work to protect campuses and students.

"As always, we will continue to share information as it is made available to us and we are authorized to do so by law enforcement," the statement said.
