Alleged threat leads to Tallahassee school closure on Thursday 'out of an abundance of caution'

A local charter school was closed Thursday and alleges a Texas man was arrested after it received threats to campus safety.

"I am thankful to report our school is safe," wrote Tallahassee Classical School administrator Hope Carrasquilla to parents in an email.

Leon County Sheriff's Office found that the threat was not related to Tallahassee Classical School.

"It’s a situation the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office in Texas is investigating. There were no threats directed toward schools in Leon County," said LCSO Spokesperson Angela Green.

Thursday morning's email from Carrasquilla stated Leon County Schools' Safety and Security department told administrators the person who created the threat had been arrested in Texas.

An email from Lt. Keven George, who oversees the patrol division of the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, however, said law enforcement was not familiar with a case concerning a threat made to Leon County Schools by a Johnson County resident.

George said there have been no recent arrests related to a threat against any school.

Barney Bishop III, the governing board chair for Tallahassee Classical, said one of the school's students received the threat from a relative in Texas. Bishop could not confirm whether the relative lived in Johnson County, Texas.

Tallahassee Classical School sent word to parents Wednesday evening stating it would close its campus after it received the threat and that the school was in contact with the Leon County Sheriff's Office.

"This evening, we received a threat and out of an abundance of caution we decided to close the school [Thursday]." Carrasquilla wrote. "Safety is our number one priority."
