Power restored to most affected customers in GR

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Thousands of people were out of power Thursday night in two spots in Grand Rapids, according to the Consumers Energy outage map.

One area of outage, affecting 390 people as of 5 a.m. Friday on the northwest side of the city, was north of I-196 and west of US-131. It spanned as far north as Richmond Street NW. On Thursday, over 3,000 customers were without power in that area.

The other spot, which affected just over 1,000 customers Thursday, is in the Heartside neighborhood near downtown along Market Avenue SW and Wealthy Street, south of Fulton Street, reaching east to Division Avenue. Power was restored before 5 a.m. Friday.

Consumers Energy originally estimated the time of restoration to be 10:30 p.m., but it has since been extended until 9:45 a.m. Friday.

It is not clear what caused the outages. Check the Consumers Energy map for updates.
