Thousands still without power after Wednesday storms, tornadoes in Louisiana

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Crews continue working Friday to restore power after Wednesday’s strong storms and tornadoes moved through Louisiana.

In a Friday morning update, Entergy Louisiana said 4,000 customers remained without power. Crews are working to make repairs in rural fields and densely wooded areas, the company said.

Entergy plans on having nearly all customers back online by Friday night.

Repair work is off-road in Pointe Coupee, East and West Feliciana parishes. The electric company said crews have successfully energized two of three substations impacted by storms and are working to restore one in Clinton Friday. Crews are also working on the distribution and transmission systems in East and West Feliciana parishes.

Any customers who are still without power are asked to check for damage to electrical equipment attached to their home or business. Entergy Louisiana said if there appears to be damage to electrical meters or wiring, then to call an electrician. If there appears to be no damage, call 1-800-968-8243.

DEMCO reports more than 100 broken poles after a tornado hit St. Francisville. Over 200 crew members are working to get transmission to Elm Park and Tunica substations, which is expected to restore power to 2,000 by the morning. The company said work is being done to restore 146 meters in the Greensburg area.

According to the DEMCO outage map, over 4,000 are left without power as of Friday afternoon.
