Thousands of Staff Wait Aboard Cruise Ships in Manila Bay for Clearance to Return Home

More than 5,300 Philippine seafarers who were working on cruise ships when the coronavirus pandemic broke out remained on vessels off the coast of Manila on May 12, awaiting clearance to return home.

More than 20 cruise ships were anchored in Manila Bay on May 12, with more set to join.

According to a report by Reuters, the coast guard has been going between the vessels to administer coronavirus tests. All aboard the ships must go through a mandatory 14-day quarantine before returning to shore.
