Thousands of SDG&E customers wake without power

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Over 3,600 San Diego Gas & Electric customers were reported to be without power Wednesday morning due to outages.

The earliest outage was reported at 5:04 a.m. in the San Diego neighborhoods of North City West, Torrey Pines and Fairbanks Country Club, according to SDG&E’s outage map. A total of 392 customers were out in these areas, with an estimated restoration time of 10:30 a.m.

Another outage, this one much larger in scale, was reported at 5:40 a.m. in the southern areas of Nestor, San Ysidro and Otay Mesa. SDG&E noted 3,256 customers were without power in these communities. In an update around 9:30 a.m., that number had been knocked down to 229, with an estimated restoration time of noon.

The cause for the outages has not been announced at this time.
