Thousands march through Berlin for Ukrainian Independence Day

STORY: Participant Jane Koptseva from Kharkiv said “there are so many Ukrainians and half of them don’t really want to be here." She also wants to go back, Koptseva said as she looked at Terry, her dog on her arm.

“She really wants to go back home and so that’s why we are here.”

Since Russian forces invaded on Feb. 24 in what President Vladimir Putin termed a "special military operation" to demilitarise Ukraine, the conflict has settled into a war of attrition fought primarily in the country's east and south.
