Thomasville Housing Authority leader to retire

Jan. 19—THOMASVILLE — The executive director and CEO of the Thomasville Housing Authority will retire effective Feb. 1.

Lois A. Hunter has led the organization for more than 49 years.

"It has been a huge privilege to have the opportunity to lead this great public housing authority for the past 49 years. However, I'm at a point in my life where I want to devote more time to my passions outside the workplace," Hunter said in a press release.

She said she was proud of what had been accomplished during her tenure.

"Together with my board, we have reimagined public housing and Section 8/housing choice voucher program and worked to improve programs and services to help public housing and HCV families improve basic life skills and achieve economic independence," she said.

She will work with the authority's board of commissioners as it searches for a successor and will work with the person selected for a smooth transition, she said.

The board will retain a search firm and intends to consider both internal and external candidates, the release said.

Ron Richardson, chairman of the authority board, said Hunter had a remarkable career and made critical changes to the organization's strategy and structure that position it strongly for success.

"This work continues, and we will thank Ms. Hunter wholeheartedly for her leadership and contribution to our housing authority when she leaves Feb. 1, 2024," he said.
