Thomasville Chapter DAR members attend Georgia State Society DAR State Conference

Apr. 9—The Georgia State Society, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution held its 125th State Conference, March 23-26, 2023 at the Atlanta Evergreen Lakeside Resort in Stone Mountain.

Conference attendees were welcomed by Georgia State Regent Betty Brown Harrah. Thomasville Chapter DAR members attending were Chapter Regent Charlotte Brown, Chaplain Drucilla Bennett, Registrar Pamela Tucker, Librarian Shelba Sellers, Michelle Kimbler and Karen Andrews. During the three-day State Conference.

Thomasville Chapter members attended Business Sessions, Genealogy Presentations by Arizona Honorary State Regent Morgan Elliott, a Memorial Service, Georgia Chapter Regents Club Luncheon and the DAR Schools and Youth Luncheon. The Opening Night Banquet and Ceremonies featured guest speaker Rosie the Riveter, performed by Carol Cain, nationally recognized storyteller.

The Awards and Recognition Banquet keynote speaker was NSDAR Chaplain General Virginia Lingelbach who gave an inspiring message about DAR and to promote belonging by acknowledging with gratitude and friendship each member and her dedicated service.

Georgia DAR Chapters were also recognized for their achievements during 2022 at the State Conference. Awards received by the Thomasville Chapter DAR included: State Honor Roll, Hightower Award for support of DAR Schools, Chapter Achievement Award, Commemorative Events Certificate of Award for 100th Anniversary of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Never Forget Garden: First Place State, First Place Southeast Division, Conservation Certificate of Award for Best Never Forget Garden Report, DAR/SAR/S.R. Certificate of Award for Most Active Chapter at the Community Level, Junior American Citizens (JAC) Certificate for Outstanding Committee Participation: Second Place, Certificate of Awards for Participation in Service To America and for Outstanding Constitution Week Participation 2022 and Certificate of Award for 2022 Publication of Article, "With the Chapters," American Spirit Magazine. The Thomasville Chapter was also recognized as a 2022 Sons and Daughters of Liberty Patron of Meadow Garden, the home of George Walton, signer of the Declaration of Independence.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Its members are descended from the patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War. With more than 190,000 members in approximately 3,000 chapters worldwide, DAR is one of the world's largest and most active service organizations. More than one million women have joined the DAR since it was founded.
