Thnks fr th Mmrs: Fall Out Boy rocks out in Fort Worth with fireworks and flaming guitars
Music from the MySpace days resurfaced in Fort Worth Thursday night as part of Fall Out Boy’s So Much For (2our) Dust show. Elder emos and younger fans alike almost filled Dickies Arena to see Daisy Grenade, The Maine, Jimmy Eat World and Fall Out Boy play songs that ranged from more than 20 years old to new.
Opener and relative newbie to the pop punk scene, Daisy Grenade had a youthful energy and were vocally talented, especially when it came to harmonizing, but unfortunately most of the mics were drowned out by the overpowering drums and guitar.
The duo will be back in Fort Worth for the So What Music Festival in June.
Following them was The Maine, which stunned with lights, guitar solos, and involved crowd work.
In between performances from The Maine and Jimmy Eat World, concertgoers got a message from Fall Out Boy lead vocalist Patrick Stump. The concert was delayed a little less than an hour due to flight issues and Stump took a car from Oklahoma City to Fort Worth.
Jimmy Eat World’s performance stunned with guitar riffs and brought out a lot of newer content but ended on “The Middle.”
Fall Out Boy mixed in newer music with deep tracks that have been in their repertoire for more than 20 years, like “Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy” and songs from their breakout album “From Under the Cork Tree.”
Of the newer music, “So Much (for) Stardust” stood out with its catchy lyrics.
They brought the stage aflame — literally — with fireworks, actual fire, and a flaming guitar played by Pete Wentz.
The visual side of the concert had a trippy, “Alice in Wonderland” appeal with slugs, cacti, and bunnies appearing during their song “Uma Thurman.”
