The dumbest political quotes of the week

Each week, the Daily Caller picks the dumbest political statements and ranks them (just for Yahoo! readers) on a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being the worst). Who do you think said the dumbest thing? Vote in our poll below!

On Thursday, in an attempt to explain remarks he made earlier this year that were roundly criticized as being insensitive to Asian Americans, Washington, D.C., councilman Marion Barry pointed out that immigrating to the United States was difficult for many different ethnic groups. But he did it all wrong:

"The Irish caught hell, the Jews caught hell, the Polacks caught hell," he said. Barry first tried to pretend he didn't say "Polacks" -- then said he meant to say "Polish."

We're doubting this helped him get back in the good graces of his Asian American constituents.

Donald Trump is a sound byte machine. Discussing who should be Mitt Romney's running mate, he offered his latest:

“Probably the best choice of all would be Donald Trump,” Donald Trump said during an interview with  Newsmax TV.

Right! Dear Donald: We’re sure you are on the Romney campaign’s shortlist, right behind Stephen Colbert and Herman Cain.

A South Carolina union organizer appears to have been so frustrated with Governor Nikki Haley that she bashed a piñata made in the South Carolina Governor's likeness during a retirement party. Maybe not the best idea, given that the whole thing was captured on video, which quickly went viral.

“But I will say you know she looks like a tough old girl here…She’s a tough old broad,” South Carolina AFL-CIO president Donna Dewitt said while smacking the crap out of a piñata with the face of the S.C. governor on it.

May we advise that a press release may be a better way for the union to send a message?
