You think you know ‘Don Quixote’ story? Check out modern day spin in ‘Quixote Nuevo’

(PORTLAND TRIBUNE) — The story of Don Quixote, with a twist, comes alive in the magical retelling that spotlights Tejano culture and celebrates life, love and the human spirit in “Quixote Nuevo” by Octavio Solis, March 2-31 at The Armory, welcomed by Portland Center Stage.

Previews starts Saturday, March 2. The regular run starts Friday, March 8, and goes through March 31.

It follows Jose Quijano, whose life as a professor of literature and experience with dementia in his older age manifests with the belief that he is the same Quixote with his fondness for steed (tricycle instead of a horse) and a need for armor (a trash can lid for a shield and a bed pan for a helmet). There is dancing, music, puppetry and more. It’s by South Coast Repertory.

Oregon-made film ‘My Dead Friend Zoe’ set for world premiere at SXSW

It’s a brilliant adaptation of the classic 17th century novel by Miguel Cervantes.

From PCS publicity:

Author of over 20 plays, Solis is considered by many to be one of the most prominent Latino playwrights in America, and served as one of three cultural consultants, and as a voice actor, in Disney/Pixar’s acclaimed film, “Coco.”
