Mar. 4—GROVE CITY — When audiences see Grove City High School's spring musical presentation watch Amelia Weller play Morticia Addams in "The Addams Family," they'll see an experienced performer.

"I have been singing and dancing all of my life. I really started in the second grade when I did theater in New Castle and I never felt like stopping," Weller said. "I was very excited when I heard this was the musical. It was definitely picked for a good reason. It's a show about death that will make you laugh."

Director Patrick McElroy said he picked "The Addams Family" with the student cast in mind.

"This group of kids really has the right energy to perform something like this," McElroy said. "It has gotten more popular but I never really considered it an option until this year. This group of kids wanted a comedy and I saw the opportunity for it."

The story follows the Addams family, created by cartoonist Charles Addams, on a new adventure. This time, the daughter of darkness, Wednesday Addams, has fallen in love. The issue is that this boy is just a regular human, the family's worst nightmare.

Wednesday and her disapproving father, Gomez, have to keep the secret from Morticia.

This musical is far from the first for McElroy. He has been the school's director for the last 16 years, helping produce 32 productions, 16 of which were musicals.

"Every time it's a different experience," McElroy said. "I know it might sound a little cliche but this really is an awesome group this year. They are very fun to be around and talented. It's been one of my favorites."

Leading the group of actors is junior Simon Hazy, who plays the father of the family, Gomez Addams.

"I have been in theater since the third grade," Hazy said. "This one has been very fun. Everyone is really committed to their roles and ready to perform."

Other lead roles in the show include Abby Cunningham as Wednesday, Thomas Hicks as Uncle Fester and Boston Tkacik as Lucas Beineki.

The show will run on April 4,5 and 6 starting at 7 p.m..

Tickets will be available at the front door or online at GCHS.booktix.com. Tickets cost $5 for students and seniors and $7 for adults.
