Then & Now: Do you know where this is?

Not long after workers disassembled the showroom and hauled away the last of the stoves and refrigerators, the crew from Perry's Luncheonette moved in.

After more than 30 years in the building next door, Irene Perry and her restaurant staff shifted to a new location, pictured in this week's Then photo, from 1983.

Perry wanted to expand while staying in the neighborhood. She leased space in an adjacent building. Renovations with a price tag of $125,000 were made to the one-time home of Percy's, the noted seller of appliances that moved to new quarters near Grove Street.

The new Perry's Restaurant opened in December 1982, 36 years after the business was founded by Irene Perry's father-in-law. She ran the business with her husband, Wilfred, until he passed away at the age of 49.

The new spot didn't last long. Within a year, facing hard times, as its lawyer told a reporter, the restaurant closed for good.
