Theft suspect found dead at Texas substation

SPRING, Texas (AP) — Investigators say a man suspected of trying to steal copper wire has been found dead at an electrical substation near Houston.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office on Thursday said investigators believe 37-year-old Harold Gene Schneider was electrocuted in the theft process.

A CenterPoint Energy Inc. worker on Wednesday night found Schneider's body at a substation near Spring.

Utility spokeswoman Alicia Dixon says there was a momentary electrical outage and an employee was sent to investigate. She says the circuit automatically reset with no extended outages.

Lt. Dan Norris says a substation fence had been cut and copper wiring was missing. Investigators believe at least one other person was involved. Nobody has been arrested.
