Everyone’s favourite crossbow-loving, motorcycle-riding, walker-killing survivor will soon return to our screens in his very own spin-off series, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.

Daryl’s solo series sees long-time franchise star Norman Reedus take centre stage in a new adventure that takes this all-American antihero overseas for the first time. It also marks the latest in a batch of The Walking Dead spin-offs that have been invading our TVs of late.

So where does this new show find Daryl and what trouble can we expect him to get into in France? Here’s all we know so far about The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.

The last we saw of Daryl was during the climax of The Walking Dead’s primary series in late 2022. Since then, we’ve had patiently wait for his reappearance. The character will finally return to UK screens on Sky and NOW in August 2024, and will be followed by a second season later in the year.

The first season, which will run for just six episodes, originally landed on US network AMC in September 2023.

“How’d you come to be in France?” asks Clémence Poésy’s zombie apocalypse nun Isabelle in the first trailer for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. “Bunch of bad decisions,” grumbles our hero in between snippets of Daryl punching, headbutting and exploding his way out of sticky situations.

The series’ first trailer starts by offering our hero a tantalising glimpse at a quiet life — but it’s not long before chaos catches up. As the vibe of the teaser gets more frantic, we discover that Daryl is embroiled in the same type of dangerous situations as he always is — but this time with a different accent.

Soon, he’s forced to go on a The Last of Us-style quest and chaperone a would-be Messiah across France.

Transporting the flesh-eating action to a European backdrop, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon finds its titular hero washed up on a foreign shore where he befriends a new group of survivors and quickly comes into contact with a new troupe of foes.

According to the series’ official description, Daryl washes ashore in France, the country that’s supposedly responsible for starting the undead outbreak that has swept the globe and all but decimated humanity.

Unsure how or why he has landed here, Daryl meets members of a religious group who are convinced that a young boy could be the unlikely saviour that leads to humanity’s rebirth.

Together with other survivors, Daryl tries to piece together the series of events that have brought him to this new land all while trying to return home. However, with every new person he comes into contact with, his homecoming dream gets increasingly complicated.

As you might expect from a show touting his character's name in the title, Reedus becomes our new group leader in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon — and it’s about time too. The Boondock Saints’ star has been with the show since its very beginning in 2010 and it didn’t take long for him to become many viewers’ favourite character.

Joining him on his journey across France are a batch of new faces, including In Bruges and Harry Potter star Clémence Poésy as Isabelle, a nun who is part of the Union of Hope — a religious group that soon comes to believe that Dixon is a key player in prophecy.

Newcomer Louis Puech Scigliuzzi plays Laurent, the young boy at the centre of the group’s religious ideals, someone who they believe can bring about a new and healed world. French actor Anne Charrier plays Genet, the leader of a group known as The Cause who are after Daryl.

Meanwhile, Chernobyl actor Adam Nagaitis plays Quinn, someone who was the owner of a successful nightclub before Walkers took over and has now risen through the ashes to become a powerful figure during apocalypse-times.

Melissa McBride makes a brief appearance as Daryl’s long-time The Walking Dead pal Carol, although she is expected to play a larger role in the upcoming season season.

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 1 will be released on Sky and NOW in August 2024
