TGCSO arrests fugitive after foot pursuit

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office apprehended a known fugitive after a traffic stop turned into a foot pursuit during the afternoon hours of April 11.

According to the sheriff’s office, a patrol deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop near Barton Street and East 29th Street at approximately 12:32 p.m. on April 11 after observing that a vehicle traveling northbound on Martin Luther King Drive had no registration sticker.

During the stop, a passenger identified as 48-year-old Corey Underhill exited the vehicle and attempted to evade law enforcement on foot. A perimeter was set during the search, and Underhill was caught while attempting to hide in a nearby residence.

Underhill was taken into custody with the help of the San Angelo Police Department. Underhill had an active felony warrant out of Upton County for evading arrest with a vehicle and had a previous conviction for evading arrest on foot.

Deputies later discovered clothing Underhill discarded during the pursuit in a shed near a residence. Near the clothing, deputies found approximately 4.56 grams of methamphetamine that Underhill later confessed was his that he was attempting to hide.

Underhill was booked into the Tom Green County Jail for the following charges:

  • Evading Arrest Detention with Previous Conviction – State Jail Felony

  • Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 >=4 grams <200 grams – 2nd Degree Felony

  • Upton County Warrant – GOB*Evading Arrest with Vehicle
