TF Green saw 6 percent drop in passengers last year; 3.6 million people used airport

WARWICK, R.I. (AP) -- The number of passengers traveling through Rhode Island's main airport last year fell about 6 percent compared with the previous year.

Statistics released Tuesday show more than 3.6 million passengers traveled through T.F. Green Airport in 2012. That's compared with more than 3.8 million the year before.

The airport had about 289,000 passengers in December, about the same for the same month in 2011.

The airport in Warwick has seen fewer passengers overall since the economic downturn began in 2008. Over 5 million people used the airport in 2007.

People who make round trips are counted twice in the statistics.

The amount of cargo handled by the airport was up about 6 percent from 2012 to last year.
