TF Green to offer nonstop service to Dominican Republic

WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island's T.F. Green Airport will soon start offering nonstop flights to the Dominican Republic.

The Rhode Island Airport Corp. on Tuesday announced that Sun Country Airlines will offer service to Punta Cana International Airport beginning Nov. 16 and running through April. The flights will be once a week on Saturdays at first, then twice a week on Saturdays and Wednesdays starting Dec. 25.

Iftikhar Ahmad, president and CEO of the agency that runs the airport, says the route will benefit the tens of thousands of Rhode Islanders of Dominican descent.

Rhode Island House Majority Leader K. Joseph Shekarchi says the new route is also an opportunity for residents looking for a Caribbean getaway.

Jude Bricker, Minnesota-based Sun County's CEO, says the airline is "thrilled" to expand in Rhode Island.
