Texas Tech IT offers update after widespread outage impacts central Lubbock

A large power outage early Wednesday knocked out service to more than 10,000 utility customers in central Lubbock, including portions of the Texas Tech campus that continued to have technology impacts later in the day.

Lubbock Power & Light reported upwards of 10,000 customers were impacted by an outage that started around 12:30 a.m., according to the utility's outage map. Much of the impacted area included the Tech Terrace neighborhood, as well as portions of other central Lubbock neighborhoods and the Tech campus.

Tech's information technology office have worked since the power was restored about 3 a.m. to restore Tech IT resources and services, according to a TechAnnounce statement released to the campus on Thursday. As of mid-day Thursday, only a few isolated network devices and pieces of instructional equipment remained offline.

It was not immediately clear what prompted the outage as LP&L worked to investigate the cause.
