Texas Shooter Identified; Civilian Killed Was His Landlord

Texas police say that Thomas Alton Caffall was the gunman responsible for a shootout that left a law enforcement officer and a civilian dead that began after Caffall was, yes, served an eviction notice. If you were following the news yesterday, we had initially noted that Caffall (whose name was not known at the time) was in a shootout with Brazos County Constable Brian Bachmann after Bachmann had served him an eviction notice--police have now confirmed that detail with CBS/The Associated Press and have released the name of Chris Northcliff, who was the civilian killed in the shootout. CBS affiliate KHOU reports that Northcliff was Caffall's landlord. But the details are still emerging. Caffall's stepfather, Richard weaver told KHOU that Caffall hadn't worked after quitting his job, that he spent most of his time playing video games, and that Caffall's violent act is not surprising: "he said he feared Caffall could to hurt, or kill, one of his own family members in recent months" reports KHOU.

Adding one more layer to the mystery and pseudo-psychoanalyzing is Caffall's Facebook page which remains unlocked. News outlets like The AP and CBS are running with photos from there, and in his "profile photos" Caffall displayed pictures of guns and ammunition  (right).  "No, it's not an AK. It's a Czech vz. 58. Just picked it up today, can't wait to try it out on the range. :)," Caffall wrote on his page last June.
