Corey Seager looked like he had a triple off the bat with a line drive down the left-field line in the fifth inning of the Texas Rangers’ 8-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals.

But Seager pulled up gimpy on his way to second base and was be taken out of the game with a hamstring injury.

The Rangers placed Seager on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday. He is expected to be out a minimum of four weeks with the grade two strain.

Seager spoke with the media ahead of the Ranger series finale with the Royals about the injury.

“Obviously disappointed, you just take it day-by-day, come in see how your feeling, see what you can do, see how it feels the next day, and go from there,” he said.

It’s not Seager’s first left hamstring injury. He missed a month with a hamstring injury in 2019 when he was with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Manager Bruce Bochy said he would rely on Josh Smith and Ezequiel Durán to fill in at shortstop in Seager’s absence.

“Josh, he’ll get the lion’s share of it [shortstop] but I’m still going to play Durán.”

Smith said he wasn’t focused on trying to emulate Seager.

“I’m not Corey Seager and Corey Seager is not Josh Smith so we’re two different players. Like I said I’m going to go out every day prepared to do my best, whatever I can to help us win,” he said.

Seager echoed Smith’s statement and said he wanted to support his teammates as best he could.

“There’s nothing else you can really do now other than support your teammates and try to be healthy,” said Seager, “ He’s [Josh Smith] a good player, he’s here for a reason, he’s gonna be fine.”

Bochy emphasized the Rangers would take their time bringing Seager back from injury.

“We always try to be on the side of caution because you end up having a setback and it’s worse,” said Bochy, “ When he’s ready we’ll have him back.”

The Rangers will miss Seager’s bat the shortstop was on fire to start the season slashing .359/.469/.538/1.007 with one home run and four RBIs.

The Rangers activated outfielder Leody Taveras from the 10-day injured list to replace Seager on the active roster.
