TYLER, Texas (KETK) – On Thursday night, President Biden delivered his State of the Union address to the nation and Texas politicians have weighed in.

Biden addressed key issues and how he will continue to push Americans towards the future.

Rep. Nathaniel Moran was on the floor of the US Capitol as President Joe Biden delivered his latest State of the Union.

In response, East Texas congressman Nathaniel Moran said he was  “shocked and appalled at the message the president gave to the American people.

“Looks like we can expect much of what he’s given to us over the last three years,” said Rep. Nathaniel Moran.

President Biden stuck to many of his campaign points: highlighting economic accomplishments and called out supreme court justice on overturning Roe v Wade.

“We need to stand firm and say both those lives are unique and special and they deserve protection from the very beginning point of conception on there’s no difference,” said Rep. Moran.

Texas Democratic congressman, Rep. Al Green from the Houston area said women’s reproductive rights are in danger.

He mentions legislation that have to be stopped is the recent passing of the Alabama IVF bill.

“We’ve got to make sure that we don’t allow this encroachment on women and their rights become the law of the land,” said Green.

Here’s Rep. Nathaniel Moran’s full reaction to the State of the Union address:

When it comes to immigration, Moran said he didn’t like how long it took the president to touch on domestic problems at the southern border.

President Biden said politics has derailed the bill so far.

“The fact that he could take unilateral action today to solve this issue by reinstating” Remain in Mexico”, by securing the border, by narrowing the asylum laws back to where they were under President Trump,” said Rep. Moran.

Texas Democratic Party Chair, Gilberto Hinojosa said the topic of immigration will put Texas in the spotlight in the race to the White House.

“From reproductive healthcare cruelty, rampant gun violence, MAGA Republican chaos and border security – it’s clear that Texas is at the center of the 2024 General Election,” said Hinojosa.

President Biden also made the State of the Union address a campaign speech that some Republicans did not like.
