Texas Mattress Store Owner Who Saved Hundreds During Hurricane Harvey Will Host Thanksgiving Dinner

Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale opened the doors to his furniture to hundreds of hurricane Harvey victims — now, he’s planning the feast of a lifetime.

McIngvale became a hometown hero over the summer when he welcomed scores of storm victims into his Gallery Furniture store amid the natural disaster. Now he’s continuing his pattern of good deeds with a massive Thanksgiving dinner.

“We’re gonna have a Thanksgiving meal for the entire community of Gallery Furniture North Freeway,” he said during a recent appearance on Good Morning America. “We’re gonna have a lot of food. We’re gonna have about 25 hundred pounds of turkey, 25 hundred pounds of ham — enough to feed the New York Giants football team.”

He said there will also be hundreds of pounds of sweet potatoes and hundreds of pies.

“We’re gonna have the best food ever,” he added. “A chance for the entire community to get together and give thanks for all the blessings we have.”

He also announced the event on the store’s Facebook page, calling it a “fun-filled Thanksgiving Day Lunch!” The meal will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

McIngvale’s latest charitable act comes just months after he made headlines for housing hundreds of hurricane victims including National Guard members, officers and other service members

“All day long on Sunday we went around and rescued people out of high water standing on overpasses, these type of things,” McIngvale told CNN then, noting that he and his team had 24-foot delivery trucks that could easily get through the waters.

“We brought about 200 people into the store that way.”

Photos of the 160,000-square-foot showroom just outside Houston showed children, military service members and families comfortable and warm on the furniture. McIngvale shared a Twitter photo of group of children playing on several large beds placed side-by-side.
