Texas A&M Forest Services awards rural West Texas volunteer fire departments over $200,000

The Texas A&M Forest Service hosted its second of three funding meetings of fiscal year 2024 for the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program, awarding 74 grants totaling around $1.3 million, according to a news release.

Twelve of those grants totaling over $200,000 went to the West Texas region. The aid given to the following volunteer fire departments and can be used to buy equipment such as dry hydrants, fire and rescue equipment, personal protective equipment and training aids:

  • Booker VFD in Lipscomb County — $20,000 for personal protective equipment.

  • Boys Ranch Fire/Rescue in Oldham County — $10,000 for training aids.

  • Dawn VFD in Deaf Smith County — $20,000 for fire and rescue equipment.

  • Kress VFD in Swisher County — $20,000 for personal protective equipment

  • Lake Tanglewood VFD in Randall County — $20,000 for fire and rescue equipment.

  • Lazbuddie VFD in Parmer — $20,000 for fire and rescue equipment.

  • Matador/Moley County VFD — $20,000 for personal protective equipment.

  • Perryton Fire Department in Ochlitree County — $10,000 for training aids.

  • Ralls VFD in Crosby County — $20,000 for personal protective equipment.

  • Reagan County Fire/EMS — $20,000 for personal protective equipment.

  • Wall VFD Inc. in Tom Green County — $20,000 for personal protective equipment.

  • West Odessa VFD in Ector County — $10,000 for training aids.
