Dec. 28—Terre Haute Mayor-elect Brandon Sakbun announced a number of choices to serve as leaders within his administration.

Brad Speidel will continue to serve as IT director. Marcus Maurer will continue in his position as city engineer. Eddie Bird will remain as parks superintendent, Heather Pohlman will continue to run Sewage Billing and Debbie Hensley will remain as transportation director.

Brian Cottee, a new addition to City Hall, will serve as the Street Department director. Ed Stewart will be promoted to Wastewater director and Brent Niece will be promoted to cemetery director.

"We have built a team that is open to change and progress while also balancing the complexities and status of current projects planned for Terre Haute," Sakbun said. "Terre Haute residents can expect government leaders who are striving to optimize services and to deliver on a daily basis for citizens."

The Mayor-elect added, "Change does not happen overnight. Over the next four years, we will reshape many local government offices and take bite-sized chunks each day to deliver for Hauteans. The 2024 budget for the city was passed in October by the previous administration. I will look for every opportunity to improve that budget and set the city up for success in 2025 and beyond.

"Seeking out grants to supplement the budget is part of that plan," Sakbun continued. "Optimizing city departments and increasing revenue for the city is another part. Working with the county government and regional partners is a separate piece of the pie. Collaborating with state and federal representatives and senators is a different ingredient that adds flavor to the city's strategy. This is a team fight. Together, we truly can improve our city."

The Sakbun administration received hundreds of applicants for positions on more than 60 board and commission appointments. Sakbun said he has made it a priority that these appointments are made up of a diverse bipartisan group that represents the interests of all residents in Terre Haute.

The final list of boards and commission appointments will be released at a later date.
