Term limits, Wickham Park, Trump and social media: Letters to the Editor, March 3, 2024

Term limit talk

I read the recent article by Tyler Vazquez in FLORIDA TODAY and am both supportive of the term limits proposed and dismayed by their failure, as proposed.

I understand the argument re: “not policy making, but administrative” positions that could be made for the tax collector and property appraiser positions. However, the Supervisor of Elections, sheriff and clerk of court are, in fact, policy making and should have term limits. Limiting those elected positions to three four-year terms does not seem unreasonable and keeps those elected officials to public office current.

Wickham Park not for large fairs

I respectfully disagree with Mr. Torres regarding the use of Wickham Park. I’ve been enjoying the park since it opened in the '60s. I’m glad the county is limiting its use for fairs and other large events. I cycle and walk/jog often there and it’s very dangerous to do so during a large event. I used to live across the street from the park and the noise, at times, was unbearable. It’s almost impossible for a family to enjoy an outing at the park during a fair; it’s simply taken over by the event. That said, the county should take this attempt by the city as a “shot across the bow” and upgrade the grounds and facilities. M. Kaliszeski, Melbourne

Moms for Liberty's two faces

FLORIDA TODAY's front page: "Parental activist opposes social media bill."

For me this proves that these Moms for Liberty are two-faced. They ban books under the guise that those books are detrimental to the children. In fact they are taking away the "parental rights" of others.

And now, the co-founder Tiffany Justice (isn't her last name ironic?) feels that her parental rights are being taken away from her.

Ms. Justice — welcome to "Free Florida," in which you had a hand.

Trump's delaying tactics

Of course, Trump doesn't want to win his immunity plea from the supreme Court {I'm not capitalizing that "supreme" for a reason). It is strictly another of his delaying tactics. If he were to win, and it took effect immediately, well, then, Biden could take similar actions.

Trump, of course, knows that Biden is much too good a man ever to engage in that kind of politics. I am still all for Joe Biden. My one complaint is about Netanyahu and genocide of the Palestinian people. Two wrongs don't make a right.
