Tents Constructed to House Afghanistan Evacuees at Virginia Army Base

Tents were built at the Fort Pickett army base in Virginia on September 8 to house evacuees from Afghanistan following the Taliban’s takeover of the country, officials said in a statement.

The statement added that the Department of Defense “is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees.”

Virginia congresswoman Abigail Spanberger said on September 10 that the base was “sheltering roughly 5,000 children, women, and men.” Credit: DVIDS via Storyful
