'Tennis-Ball-Sized' Hail Splashes Into Northern Minnesota Lake

Large hailstones splashed into a lake in northern Minnesota on July 19 as “strong to severe” thunderstorms swept through the region, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Lori Neal told Storyful she captured this video while vacationing at her parents’ cabin. She explained that as everyone went into vehicle and property “protection mode,” she went to the back deck to document the up to tennis-ball-sized hail.

The video shows heavy hailstones making a splash as it lands in the lake. The NWS warned of large hail and damaging winds up to 60 mph in the area. Credit: Lori Neal via Storyful
