Tennessee State LB Christion Abercrombie upgraded from critical to stable condition
The college football world received some good news Sunday, as Tennessee State linebacker Christion Abercrombie was upgraded to from critical to stable condition Sunday after a head injury received during a game put him in the hospital last month.
The Tennessee State program announced the news 15 days after Abercrombie collapsed on the sideline during the Tigers’ road game against Vanderbilt and was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for mergency surgery. The sophomore had previously been breathing through a ventilator.

According to Tennessee State head coach Rod Reed, Abercrombie “was taking on a block” when he suffered the injury. Despite it reportedly being a normal football play, Abercrombie told trainers on the sideline that he had a headache, then needed oxygen when he collapsed.
“It wasn’t anything malicious or dirty or anything like that. Just an unfortunate situation,” Reed said.
The Tennessee State community has since rallied around Abercrombie, with both the Tigers and their opponents adopting a helmet sticker honoring him. The linebacker’s mother Staci reported that he even received a visit from new Pro Football Hall of Famer Robert Brazile.
