Magical moments at the Oscars don’t only take place inside the Dolby Theater. The lobby is jam-packed with action everywhere from the first-floor bar to even the bathroom. Here are some of the moments that took place around the loo.
Frances McDormand was a woman on a mission.
The Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri star apparently does not mess around when it comes to her bathroom breaks. During a commercial break, and before she inspired the audience with her rousing speech, McDormand came striding out of the theater with purpose, waving away well-wishers and bypassing chatty attendees as she made a beeline for the bathroom. She did the exact same thing on the way back into the auditorium, making it down to her seat in the nick of time. This is just another example of the no nonsense approach to life — and awards season — that people have come to love and appreciate about the 2018 Best Actress winner.
Timothee Chalemet is also no nonsense about bathroom breaks.
Best Actor nominee Timothee Chalamet was making the most of his first Oscars experience, which explains why he was in such a rush to get back to it. Chalamet only made it out to the bar area once during the broadcast, and it was only so he could make a beeline to the bathroom before the commercial break was over. As someone recognized him on the way, Chalamet pointed at him in acknowledgement and said a quick hello before disappearing behind the men’s room door before dashing back to his seat.
Greta Gerwig and Ashley Judd share a tender moment.
As the Lady Bird director was on her way out of the bathroom, actress and activist Ashley Judd was on her way in. Judd stopped Gerwig to congratulate her on her Oscar nomination and tell her how much she appreciated her work. The ladies chatted about the magical evening before embracing, with Gerwig exclaiming, “I love you, and I am so grateful for you.” Judd thanked her, then said, “I’d like to get a picture with you later!” Gerwig responded, “Maybe not in the bathroom?” The two laughed, with Judd clarifying she meant sometime in the evening. “I’ll be around,” Gerwig assured her. “I’ll be partying all night!”

Also in the bathroom, was Leslie Mann wearing a voluminous dress and she somehow masterfully was able to handle any obstacle she came across throughout the night without the train getting demolished. “It’s really dirty material now, and every once in a while I feel someone step on it and it stops me, so I have to take a second,” she shared, and then smiled broadly as she added, “But you know what? It’s fine.” Just then, another bathroom patron complimented her on her gown, proving that it’s more than fine — it’s awesome.
Margot Robbie’s wardrobe issues persisted.
Unquestionably, Margot Robbie looked stunning in her Chanel dress on Oscar night, but it was also giving her some major issues. Earlier in the evening, the Best Actress nominee was fussing with some beading that was coming loose from the bodice and the repair continued later in the bathroom, as she examined the issue in the mirror and did what she could to make a fast fix that would hold until the next commercial break.
