Tenant says nothing being done about water problem at Gardner apartment

GARDNER, Kan. — Tenants of a troubled Johnson County apartment complex are complaining again.

This time, a tenant at the Aspen Place Apartments say there’s no water to her rented home, and property managers aren’t fixing it.

Joyce Corwin said it was around 2 a.m. on April 23, when she heard a loud gurgling noise from her kitchen.

That was the sound of her sink overflowing into the floor. She and her son, Randy Johnson, cleaned that mess up, but the next day, they lost water service and it hasn’t returned. As of Monday, that was six days.

“To me, they’re just full of excuses,” Corwin said on Monday.

Corwin shared text messages with FOX4 News showing the property managers plumbers would come to fix the water. She added that a handful of workers have come out, but nobody restored service.

“I’m very upset. We’ve been six days without water. We have a laundry room full of wet towels, blankets, clothes, anything we can find because they told us if the floor is damaged, we’re liable for it,” Corwin said.

FOX4 has visited these apartments in the past. During Christmas week, more than 100 tenants didn’t have water service. Johnson said service was restored that time. However, this time, only one apartment is affected.

“There’s no water, so we can’t shower. We can’t even take a bath. We can’t flush the toilet because there’s no water to even flush the toilet,” Johnson said.

FOX4 called, messaged and even knocked on the door of Aspen Place managers six times on Monday, but nobody responded to our requests.

Johnson says the water bill for this apartment is paid in full. He’s lived here for three years and he’s tired of water service going out.
