Temporary changes coming to Federal Boulevard for Cinco de Mayo weekend

DENVER (KDVR) — The Denver Police Department released traffic plans for Cinco de Mayo weekend on Federal Boulevard.

Much like recent years, those plans include reducing the road from 6th Avenue to West Evans Avenue down to one lane. Authorities say the reduction allows first responders to get through a busy stretch of road.

“DPD, they’re doing a great job,” said Bernard Lopez, a Denver native and member of Just Casual Car & Bike Club.

Police also plan to crack down on sound ordinance violations coming from vehicle stereos and excessive horn honking and to enforce juvenile curfew.

While cruising on Federal is an annual tradition for the holiday weekend, Lopez said he skips it these days.

“I stay away from Federal now,” Lopez said. “It’s too much of a hassle. It’s too hard.”

The changes are in effect May 3-5.
