Tehachapi police arrest Wyoming man passed out in car next to firearm

A Wyoming man was arrested Friday in the 1100 block of West Tehachapi Boulevard on suspicion of drug- and firearm-related charges after law enforcement officers found the man passed out in his car, according to the Tehachapi Police Department.

Christopher Whisenant, 42, of Wyoming was found in his car by TPD officers with his hazard lights on. When officers spoke to Whisenant, they noticed a handgun wedged between the seat, according to TPD.

Officers determined Whisenant was under the influence of a controlled substance, TPD reported. It said they later found ammunition and a high-capacity firearm magazine in his car.

Whisenant was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of narcotics, possession of a firearm while armed, felon in possession of a firearm, under the influence of a controlled substance while armed and carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm in public.

According to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office, Whiseman is no longer in KCSO custody as of Monday afternoon. No charges have been filed against Whiseman as of Monday, according to Kern County Superior Court records.
